Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

And how many more will we open before we are done?
Could a life be counted by how many doors one
has opened, held open for someone else, opened unto
themselves? If a life can be counted in years, or breaths,
or tears, then I think we can also count it by doors.
Doors shut in your face or slammed in an argument.
Doors closed and locked to protect, or opened to set free.
Doors inside of doors and the ones that lead no where.
The doors made of steal or bars or rice paper can tell
your story. Opening doors to a new life and better
tomorrow, or opening doors to a forgotten past.
The doors that connect and the one that separate.
